Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using StudyBuddy AI ("the Service") you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Account requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service (older where local law requires). You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. Provide accurate sign-up information and keep it current.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Scrape, crawl, or rate-limit-evade the Service.
• Upload content that is illegal, infringing, malicious, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that targets minors.
• Use the Service to violate the acceptable-use policies of any upstream AI model provider (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic).
• Attempt to reverse-engineer prompts, model weights, or infrastructure, or to extract other users' data.
• Resell the Service or wrap it in another product without our written permission.

4. User-generated content

You retain ownership of the materials you upload. By uploading, you grant StudyBuddy AI a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, process, transform, and display that content solely to operate the Service for you (for example, extracting text, generating summaries, caching outputs, and showing you your own study artefacts). We do not use your uploads to train third-party models.

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to upload the material — copyright, licence, classroom policy, exam-board rules, and so on.

5. AI-generated content disclaimer

The Service uses third-party AI models to generate summaries, quizzes, flashcards, and explanations. AI output can be wrong, biased, or incomplete. Verify anything you plan to submit for a grade, exam, application, or other consequential decision. The Service is a study aid, not a substitute for the underlying source material or qualified instruction.

6. Subscription and billing

The Service offers a Free plan and a paid Premium plan. Billing details, prices, refund policy, and any trial terms will be described on the checkout page when paid plans are enabled. By subscribing you authorise recurring charges through our payment processor until you cancel. (Placeholder — paid billing is not live yet.)

7. Termination and data deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the data settings page; we will hard-delete your content within a reasonable period afterwards (subject to backup-cycle constraints and any limited retention required by law). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practical.

8. Limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of grades, admissions, profits, data, or goodwill arising from your use of the Service. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the minimum the law permits.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction to be specified by counsel before launch], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless an alternative forum is agreed in writing.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
