Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

StudyBuddy AI ("we", "our", "us") helps students turn study materials into summaries, flashcards, and adaptive quizzes. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using StudyBuddy AI you agree to this policy.

2. Data we collect

• Study materials you upload — text you paste, files you upload (PDFs, slides, images), and URLs you submit.
• AI-generated content — summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and other artefacts derived from your materials.
• Usage events — quiz attempts, scores, review history, and aggregated study-session metadata.
• Authentication identifiers — your email address, hashed password (handled by our auth provider), and OAuth identifiers if you sign in with a third party.
• Profile preferences — display name, school, study level, preferred language.

3. How we use data

• To generate, cache, and serve your personalised study artefacts.
• To improve AI outputs — for example, by re-running prompts on content you explicitly ask us to regenerate.
• To operate the service, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
• To process billing if and when you upgrade to a paid plan (handled by our payment processor).

4. AI processing

StudyBuddy AI routes AI requests through the Lovable AI Gateway, which in turn forwards prompts to upstream model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, or others). Your study material, your preferences, and limited account context may be sent to those providers as part of a prompt. We do not sell your data to model providers; their handling of API inputs is governed by their own terms.

AI outputs can be wrong. Verify anything generated by StudyBuddy AI before relying on it for an exam, grade, or important decision.

5. Data retention and your right to delete

Your uploads and AI-generated content are retained while your account is active. You can delete individual sources at any time, or hard-delete your entire account and associated data from the data settings page.

Visit Your data (sign-in required) to export everything we hold about you, or to request hard deletion.

6. Third parties

• Supabase — authentication, Postgres database, and file storage.
• Lovable Cloud — application hosting and the AI gateway that brokers calls to upstream model providers.
• Stripe (if and when billing is enabled) — payment processing for paid subscriptions.

Each provider has its own privacy policy and processes data on our behalf under a data-processing agreement.

7. Cookies

We currently set only essential cookies needed for authentication, session management, and remembering your preferences (theme, language). We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers today. If we add analytics in the future, we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.

8. Children's privacy

StudyBuddy AI is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data to us, please contact us so we can delete it.
